Machine woes and Converse Redesign

Well, my beast of a sewing machine is still in the shop. Apparently the entire tension assembly is toast. The shop owner said they called me in early and screwed up, so they are going to install the entire assembly for free, thus saving me 80$ in parts and labour. She also said she wants to toss a few free needles in with it for the trouble if she remembers.

This month's DIY is how I re-designed my 'chucks' or Converse shoes if you will.

The original color of the shoes was a medium grey. To get them the black color, I used car upholstry touchup spray since my room mate picked it up for his car and decided he didnt like the texture on fuzzy upholstry after it dried. Its just a spray acrylic...and coated the shoes except i used painters tape to block out the rubber on the soles and over the toes.

Next i got all manner of sharpies, permenant markers, and metallic permenant markers and went to town. I started by doing sharpie and metallic paintbrush marker on the toes. Then sprayed a fixative on top . A suggestion for that is you might want to find something a little more flexible than I did. maybe a leather wax spray.

Then I hand sewed the quilt paisley material over the 'converse' logo and did my own star in silver sharpie on the material. Then went to do all the other squiggleys.

I tye died the shoe laces by saturating the areas i wanted in sharpie, and seperating the colors with a rubber band, then poured rubbing alcohol on them to make them bleed into eachother....keep in mind this runs so make sure you drip it into a sink or tub and let it hang overnight. Spray with a waterproofing coat over the whole shoe....and you are done!
