TTC Knitalong - June 6 2009

I was involved in the TTC Knitalong on Saturday (June 6th for those who need to know). I had an absolutely fantastic time and I highly encourage anyone in the Toronto Area who can knit or crochet to come along for the ride next year. I went to a bunch of stores that are close enough to home that I can visit more often, and such wonderful people and sales staff

I spent about 100$, but the freebies were worth it too

Below are the shops we visited on East Team B - in order.

To start off the day, our team captains handed off everyone a TTC knitalong Pin, Map, and Cloth shopping bag, all with the TTC Knitalong logo on it. I liked that almost every pin was different that either had a TTC or Wool theme to it.

From the Naked Sheep, I bought some thick Baby Alpaca wool and a stitch counter with their web address on it (i bought the wool to make a hat for this winter). I won a prize pack that included a pin, a pen with highlighter, a measuring tape, and some 'Soak' citrus wool wash. My friend Gaesis won a metal coffee mug with travel pouch.

At the Purple Purl, they gave us a free cloth bag for our purchases, and inside they gave us a small skein of baby alpaca and silk! (drool) The ladies showed off the 'Tampon Yarn', and offered drinks and cookies (which i accidently spilt the orange juice on the table, but all yarn and cameras were saved). I bought a skein of chunky merino wool and some blue corridale rovings to spin(which im already almost done spinning)

This was taken at the Purple Purl where our host shows off the 'tampon yarn'.

And this is my spinning in progress

At Lettus Knit, I picked up a hank of orange/brown/yellow wool (not sure what type of sheep but it feels nice and soft....if my memory serves me right it was merino) which I am looking forward to spinning as well.

This is just a group shot of one of our captains and a bunch of knitters enjoying the sun while starting or finishing various projects out in front of Lettus Knit which is located at Kensington.

We went to Americo next, and although I didnt buy anything, I have bought from them before, but I think I will seriously have to save up to shop there since they deal in rare dye lots and really high end wools.

Our final shop of the day is one I visit quite frequently, which is Romani. I bought some rovings that consisted of merino and POSSUM! I also picked up a book on 'Creative Spinning' for more of the basic techniques, and ideas. I also picked up another drop spindle cause the other ones I have are being used, or arent quite the right weight.

We finished at one of the local pubs for food and a tally on who bought the most.

Thats wool on those sticks, but it sort of looks like cotton candy doesnt it?

I also was happy that I finished a project with my homespun 'mystery sheep' wool, which are in the picture below.

At the end of it all, I went home sunburnt, tired, geeky, and with a yarn otherwords, I had fun!

I will have to visit these shops one day when I'm back in the knitting mood. Mind you, I still have bins of wool to play with when the desire arises.

Looks like you had a great day!
